Below are a list of steps to help resolve an issue of sending email from a remote location.
Local ISPs (internet service providers) sometimes intermittenly block the default outbound port: 25, from sending email due to spammers using this port to send messages.
This is why we have two ports open: 25 and 587 for sending email.
If this 'fix' doesn't work, then contact your ISP and ask them to assist in setting up your email client to send email using their SMTP servers.
Outlook Express/Vista Mail
1. Open Outlook Express.
2. Locate and click on the 'Tools' menu.
3. Select 'Accounts' (see below)
4. Click on 'Mail' tab.
5. Select your mail account.
6. Click 'Properties' button.
7. Select 'Advanced' Tab.
8. Locate Outgoing Mail (SMTP Port)
-By default is: 25
9. Change port number to: 587
10. Click 'Apply'
11. Click 'OK'.
12. Click 'Close'
13. Check to make sure nothing is in the 'Outbox', if there are messages in the outbox, either delete them or move them to the 'Drafts' folder.
14. Test your email setting by sending an email to your own address. You should see it go out, then come back from the mail server.
If your settings are configured properly this email will be sent out and an automatic response will be received in your mailbox within a few minutes.
